Player Profile - September 2010 : Tamika Saxby, Squash

Tamika Saxby

Career highlights: Australian 17 years champion 2009; Australian 15 years champion 2008, 2007; Australian 13 years champion 2006; Scottish Junior Open 17 years champion 2009; ; Scottish Junior Open 15 years champion 2007; Penang Junior International 17 years champion 2008, Penang Junior International 15 years champion 2007.

Tamika Saxby first made her mark on the Australian squash scene as a 12-year-old back in 2006 and has hardly stopped since then. The 17-year-old from Coffs Harbour won her first national title in 2006 when she took out the 13 years girls championship the first of four Australian titles so far with the prospect of more to come.  Tamika followed her 2006 win with the 15 years title in 2007 and 2008 and the 17 years title last year. Her overseas successes include Scottish Junior Opens in 2007 (15 years) and 2009 (17 years), and Penang Junior International wins in 2007 (15 years) and 2008 (17 years).  Tamika has also represented Australia on two occasions.  She was the best performed and youngest member of the Australian team at the Women's Junior World Championships in Chennai, India in 2009, and earlier this year she made the second round of the Women's Junior World Individual Championship in the German city of Cologne, losing a tough five-game battle to highly credentialed Egyptian Nouran El Torky.  Tamika has taken her first steps toward a professional career, making the quarter-finals of two Women's International Squash Players' Association (WISPA) tournaments in 2009 and two more earlier this year.  As a result she is now ranked 118 on the WISPA world rankings and should become the next Australian woman to break into the top 100.    Tamika's success highlights the amazing impact that regional centres are having on NSW and Australian squash.
