Womensport
and Recreation NSW
actively seeks recognition for women involved in sport. The organisation
has also been highly recognised by several organisations in their

the "Ski" Schoolgirls' Breakfast with the Stars -
$1000 Cheque
- In
the year 2000 Womensoprt and Recreation NSW administered 37
Awards to women and men for the Australian Sports Medal to recognise
outstanding efforts to develop women's sport. In these awards,
Johanna Vescio (WRNSW) received one, and Janice Crosswhite (WRNSW)
received one via her involvement in Basketball. Through our
networks ... advertising, networking and emails, administered
this on behalf of the DSR. The award was given by the Federal
Government. We were able to put in 37 nominations. All these
people received their awards. Emphasis was placed on grassroots
volunteers.
- Johanna
Vescio received the Wendy Ey Award at the 2000 Pre-Olympic
Congress in Brisbane. The Wendy Ey Award is presented to a researcher
who makes a major contribution to the area of knowledge of women
in sport. Johanna's presentation was titled "Sharing
good practice: Key elements to increase teenage girls' participation
in sport and physical activity," a collaborative effort
with WRNSW.
