Womensport and Recreation NSW actively seeks recognition for women involved in sport. The organisation has also been highly recognised by several organisations in their awards programs:

2005

  • NSW Sports Safety Award Scheme - Bronze Medal - "Outstanding Education & Promotion Project or Program in the Field of Sports Injury Prevention and Reduction - State"

2004

  • Margaret Pewtress Award to Johanna Vescio, WRNSW Board Member and former President.

2002

  • NSW Sports Federation Annual Awards - Finalist - "Best Organisation of the Year"
  • National CommunityLink Awards Certificate of Recognition 2002 for the "Ski" Schoolgirls' Breakfast with the Stars.

2001

  • It was tremendous news when Hazel Hawke (Patron of WRNSW) and Janice Crosswhite (founding President) were awarded an Australian Honour at the Queen's Birthday 2001. Hazel received an AO and Janice, nominated by WRNSW, received an OAM (the Medal of the Order of Australia) for service to sport, particularly the development and promotion of women's sport and to the community.
  • WRNSW nominated several women for the Margaret Pewtress Memorial Award in 2001 with the following results:

    Ann Mitchell - Finalist
    Jackie Burns - Finalist
    Cheryl Baertard - Winner
    Elaine Goggin - Finalist

  • Sports NSW Annual Awards 2001 - NSW Sports Federation
    Special Recognition Award
    for NSW Womensport & Recreation for the series of "Ski" Schoolgirls' Breakfast with the Stars.
  • National CommunityLink Awards Certificate of Recognition 2001 for the "Ski" Schoolgirls' Breakfast with the Stars.

2000

  • National CommunityLink Awards 2000 Certificate of Commendation for the "Ski" Schoolgirls' Breakfast with the Stars - $1000 Cheque
  • In the year 2000 Womensoprt and Recreation NSW administered 37 Awards to women and men for the Australian Sports Medal to recognise outstanding efforts to develop women's sport. In these awards, Johanna Vescio (WRNSW) received one, and Janice Crosswhite (WRNSW) received one via her involvement in Basketball. Through our networks ... advertising, networking and emails, administered this on behalf of the DSR. The award was given by the Federal Government. We were able to put in 37 nominations. All these people received their awards. Emphasis was placed on grassroots volunteers.
  • Johanna Vescio received the Wendy Ey Award at the 2000 Pre-Olympic Congress in Brisbane. The Wendy Ey Award is presented to a researcher who makes a major contribution to the area of knowledge of women in sport. Johanna's presentation was titled "Sharing good practice: Key elements to increase teenage girls' participation in sport and physical activity," a collaborative effort with WRNSW.

1999

  • New South Wales Sports Federation Annual Sports Award 1999 - Finalist for the "Sk Schoolgirls' Breakfast with the Stars.
